A Light in the DarkAs the bell rang, she quickly pushed through the door, pressing her bag to her side to avoid it being tugged from her shoulder. Her head hung low, her hair falling over her eyes and casting her face in shadows. Her entire posture seemed to plead that she might stay unnoticed.A Light in the Dark by Managodess
All too quickly though, it became obvious that her pleas would not be heard today.
A body collided hard with hers, bringing the barely over five foot tall girl to stumble.
“Watch where you’re going!” A voice snarled; the person it belonged to giving her another heavy shove. Already off-balance, she fell to her knees on the dirty linoleum ground, feeling the soon-to-be bruises.
“S-sorry”, her voice was a mere whisper as her hands faintly shifted on the ground. She lingered a moment longer, letting her long hair hide her trembling lips and the faint shimmer of wetness in her eyes.
“You better be.”
She heard laughter and felt something hit the side of her leg, almost bringing

With swift movements, she slipped on her jacket, tied up her boots and grabbed her always packed bag, which held a notebook, some trail mix, a bottle of water and a camera. Enough to document whatever she might come across and to have something to keep her hunger and thirst down if things took longer than expected. Outside of the few major cities where she lived, there was often a long area of nature, void of any towns or even smaller cities.
She didn’t even consider taking her phone – the signal out in the forest was a joke anyway – and so, feeling as prepared as she’d ever be, she walked out the door, locked it behind her and pocketed the key.
